How does bookkeeping support help with business growth?
We do like to take on new clients but we also help our existing clients to grow too. Sometimes that will mean they have more than one company or they run a company as well as a partnership. It is rewarding to help clients through the transition and see that we have supported them to get the results they want.
Who is the ideal client?
We have a variety of clients covering different industries and locations, however all of them share a growth mindset. After moving to St Neots in Cambridgeshire in 2022, we would love to take on more local clients to add to the base we have across the Home Counties.
Some clients have grown dramatically – one grew from 100 thousand pounds in turnover to 3 million in the time Jen worked with them. Over 8 years the business had totally transformed! Close attention to the figures meant that the cash was there to keep suppliers paid. Up to date books helped to obtain funding from the banks when needed.
We have clients who have to invest in expensive machinery to grow and so their growth plans have involved planning the unique finance requirements for each machine along the way. Having the management reports to show up to date figures can really help when dealing with banks and lenders.
Quite a few clients have been trying to get back on track, as the last few years have been about survival but now they are ready to grow again. The steps needed have to be tailored to the client’s own goals and situation. When it comes to business growth, it is crucial to work closely with business owners as everyone has their own unique priorities and timelines.
Another client had some seasonal work and we have helped him expand the number of contracts he has, so that there is now work all year round. This has made a dramatic difference to his income and plans for the future. Having all your turnover in one quarter of the year can make trading very stressful. Helping him to gain regular income over the months of the year really reduced the pressures he was facing.
Other successes have been on a smaller scale but the owners are now achieving a better work life balance as they can afford to pay for staff to help them rather than trying to do everything themselves.
Each client has their own goal. We need to understand fully where the client is today and where they are trying to get to, so that we can help them along the way. Let us know if you feel you would like to work with the BW team.
